'It's going to be different things for different people. We're interested in investigating an ecosystem of devices that don't necessarily have to share a common spec,' Keyzer said. Nothing's set in stone, of course, and Valve's still very much in the exploratory phase of its Steambox push.

The client now allows users to embed tweets directly from the app itself. Previously users had to use Chrome or the web client to embed tweets in their blogs and websites. The update also brings over 90 bug fixes and enhancements including a new Typeahead search, which autosuggests search preditions based on what you are typing. If you're not a Twitter power user, TweetDeck - and its newest upgrades - probably won't appeal to you.
However if you live and die by the blue bird, get updating. TweetDeck 02:50 Uhr. The current leader in subscription video streaming is Netflix, and today at its Las Vegas hotel suite we saw some of the technology it's planning to stay a step ahead of the competition this year.
First up was one of the most widely requested features - the ability to set up individual profiles for different family members, complete with their own queues and recommendations. The profiles can be set up on device or on the Netflix site, with toggles for a preference to its Just for Kids menu UI, as well as asking a bit about your preferred movies to seed initial recommendations. The update fixes several annoying bugs that have been reported in Apple's online help discussion forums. From Apple's knowledge base article: About MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update 2.6 This update is recommended for MacBook Air (mid 2012) models. This update fixes a color issue with HDMI displays connected to MacBook Air, resolves an issue with Windows which can prevent MacBook Air from booting properly, and also resolves an issue where unplugging a Thunderbolt device may cause the system to freeze when waking from standby.
As usual, the EFI firmware update weights in at a tiny 4.76 MB. Be sure you have your MacBook Air plugged into its power supply when installing the 02:35 Uhr. The Atlantic has an article up about Kevin Russ, a prolific and popular nature photographer who has amassed a significant following with his haunting photos of the American West. While the content of Russ's still life snaps has garnered much attention, so has his camera of choice: the iPhone. The photographer says he prefers the phone because it allows him to snap, edit and shoot on one device. Russ takes all his shots using his iPhone 5, mostly in the default Camera app before importing them into apps including VSCO Cam and Afterglo for editing. He then shares the pictures on Instagram - where he has some 13,000 followers - and 02:05 Uhr.
Even though Microsoft doesn't have a booth at CES this year, that doesn't mean it skipped Vegas altogether. Panos Panay, the general manager for Surface products, is in town, holding meetings with a few members of the media, us included.
And he brought some toys with him. Specifically, the forthcoming Surface Pro along with the pressure-sensitive pen that goes with it. We only had a few minutes of hands-on and in any case, we plan on going into much more detail when we eventually write our review.
For now, though, we've got a first look waiting for you past the break. Join us.Gallery: Microsoft Surface Pro hands-on 01:35 Uhr. NDP DisplaySearch has announced that it expects worldwide combined tablet sales, lead by Apple's iPad, to outsell combined notebook sales in 2013 for the first time ever. It also says that smaller tablets - again led by the iPad mini - will become the dominant size this year, a fairly obvious conclusion given sales over the holidays. The company says 7-to-8-inch tablets should account for about 45 percent of all tablet shipments, while the 9.7-inch full-size iPad and its competitors will slip to 41 percent of shipments. Overall, tablets will sell about 240 million units compared to notebooks 01:35 Uhr. Plantronic's Clarity announced a first with the Ensemble at CES 2013, an accessible amplified phone that also telephone-captions your call in near-real time.
The set's display is actually a 7-inch Android tablet - version 2.2 if you must ask - and the heart of the system. When a call is placed or comes in the caller's speech is passed off to FCC-certified telephone-captioning company ClearCaptions and the results are then written to the phones display - while the audio is amplified in the Ensemble's earpiece. Of course, we wouldn't write it up if there wasn't an app, and with the app there's actually quite a lot of cool stuff you can do with the Tethercell. I saw a prototype at the annual Showstoppers event (held during CES), and it worked well and looked like a winner - if it gets funded, of course.
Besides a simple remote control, the Tethercell can be programmed to turn on or off at certain times, control several devices at once, and even warn you when batteries are getting low. The Tethercell ha 01:05 Uhr.
Today Apple announced on their Developer Portal that screenshots for submitted apps will be locked once an app is approved. Until now a developer could change screenshots for an app (the preview images you see in the App Store that help you see what an app looks like) at any time.
The new rules mean that now the screenshots for an app cannot be changed until an update for the app is submitted again. From Apple's notice: Updating Screenshots in iTunes Connect Beginning January 9, app screenshots will be locked in iTunes Connect once your app has been approved. New screenshots may be uploaded when you submit a binary for an update to an existing app or a new a 00:50 Uhr. This year at CES - as always - there's been waves and waves of new technology. Not everything of interest is always white hot, though. We're talking about the above pair of headphones - the Orpheus HE90 from Sennheiser.
Those in the know will be somewhat familiar with these headphones, as they made their initial debut in 1991. The limited run of 300 pairs has secured these exclusive cans a special place in audio folklore.
The electrostatic headphones combined with a companion all-valve amp are what many consider to be a reference point in hi-fi. As a small example, most consumer headphones offer a frequency response somewhere in the region of 60 - 20,000 kHz. The Orpheus offer from 7 - 100,000 - we're guessing even som 00:50 Uhr.
Nikon's 1 series of mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras may not be the first choice among professional photographers, but they're apparently selling like hotcakes, and they're a big hit at CES, too. Front and center in Nikon's booth, there's a pair of professional dancers practicing their craft on continuous shifts, surrounded by a ring of J3 and S1 bodies and a variety of colorful lenses.
Both cameras look and feel very similar to Nikon's first model in this series, the J1. There's a handful of new colors available, an 00:50 Uhr. Styku has been around for roughly a year now. The company even just wrapped up a pilot program with Nordstrom that could see the legendary retailer using it's Kinect-based measurement taking system. While there hasn't been much change to the Styku Virtual Fitting Room, we figured we'd swing by and actually check out how it works for ourselves. We spoke to Tommy Vo, who walked us through the process, which is pretty simple. He directed us to stand with our heels on a pair of marks on the floor, hold our arms out from our sides and stand still for roughly five seconds while the Kinect cameras mounted all around us snapped a 00:50 Uhr.
In addition to announcing availability for the XO tablet, Vivitar is outing the new 7-inch Camelio slate at CES. Like the XO, it has a family-friendly bent, with optional $20-$30 'personality kits' that customize the user experience with themes like Thomas the Tank Engine. Vivitar had the slate on hand - and even provided approximate pricing and availability info - but it's mum on specs for the moment, as it still considers this device to be in the prototype phase.
About that MSRP: it will be about $129, with a release date in late spring. We spent a few minutes playing with the Camelio, and though there were no pre-loaded kiddie apps or personality kits to play with, it's c 00:20 Uhr. We must admit, we were a bit surprised when we heard that Westinghouse - not exactly the first name in HDTV - would be bringing a 110-inch 4K HDTV to CES. Naturally, once we got to Vegas, we had to see the thing for ourselves.
Its size is as impressive as you imagine, and the native-res 4K video looked really good on such a massive screen, with nearly 180-degree viewing angles and vibrant colors. Unfortunately, the unit we saw was an engineering test mule, so the back was all exposed panels and circuit boards and there was some ghosting on the screen itself. However 00:20 Uhr.
In honor of the twelfth birthday of iTunes, Ars Technica senior Apple editor Jacqui Cheng has published a photographic family tree of sorts showing the app (and its predecessor SoundJam) through its various incarnations. It's an amazing trip down memory lane and demonstrates how even how the iTunes 11 MiniPlayer owes a bit of its design to the SoundJam app of pre-OS X days. What was the first version of iTunes you remember using? I managed to hold out until iTunes 2, which I used with my first iPod.
